Project Island Song - Floating Classroom

Last week some of us were lucky enough to go to Project Island Song's Floating Classroom.  We went out on one of the Explore boats, to Urupukapuka Island.  We learnt all about what Project Island Song is doing to save the birds and bring back the bird song to the islands.

We planted some trees and we made some traps to catch the pests that harm the birds.

We had such an awesome day! Thanks to all the people involved in Project Island Song and to our amazing parent helpers for making it a success.

Class Craft

In Te Maunga we are playing a game call Classcraft, we are playing this game because we are learning about collaboration and relationships. We have been learning that what we do can hurt other people's feelings. We also  need to be nice to each other and help each other to work as a team.

It is a game where you have to work together as a team you get XP experience points for doing the right thing like staying on task, and you lose HP health points when you don’t do the right thing like social talking. Your team can help you if you lose points; if they a healer, they can fix you, if they are warrior they can take away some damage for you. It is really cool because you have to work together because if you don’t, and someone falls in battle you lose points to.

E-Learning Symposium

Last week some of our students went to Ohaeawai Primary to present at the E-Learning Symposium.  They talked about Chapter Chat and how it is helping our learning.  Bella, Tia, Liam and Payton did such an amazing job talking to other students, teachers, parents and Principals.

Chapter Chat

Us getting ready for our first Chapter Chat
Last week Te Maunga took part in our first Chapter Chat.  Chapter Chat is a twitter chat involving lots of classes and students around New Zealand talking about the same novel.  The book we are all reading this term is Ghost by Jason Reynolds.(Click here to find out more about this book)  We are loving the book so far!  We get 10 questions to discuss during the chat and we can complete some tasks related to the chapters we read that week.
Some of us couldn't drag ourselves away from the chat!

We have had to learn how to use Twitter, how to get our point across in less than 140 characters, how to be good digital citizens, how to answer questions about the book and how to respond to others properly.

Some of enjoyed it so much we stayed in class after the bell went to keep participating!

We can't wait for the next chat!
